What would you say?

What would you tell the Samaritan lady if she came over for coffee one day? What would your response be after hearing her confess her sin using words sucha as "fornication" and "adultery". Or when she recognizes the fact that her way of living was the onsetting factor that her un-wed daughter now has two babies. What would you say to her about her spiritual state? What do you say when she manages to say, over her sobbing, "I know I am at fault in all of this. I let it happen!"

What do you say to her "significant other" when his first sentence is "We came to see what your opinion is even though you are younger and obviously don´t have the experience we have." What would you say to him when it is obvious that he loves her but finds it too complicated to straighten out their lives. Or what do you say when the most obvious "complication" is his disregard for the need to straighten things out. What would you tell this prideful man when he starts to cry as she voices her frustration of living in sin and her desire to either legalise the 10 year relationship or end it.

What else did Jesus say to the Samaritan lady during those 2 days in Sychar. Did He give her a list of steps to take to make amends in her life? Did He talk to her about ultimatums and spiritual death. Did He even talk to her again, or was their talk by the well and His public teaching enough to give her the faith, strength and in-sight she needed to change her life? Did He repremand her "significant other"? Or maybe he was one of those who heard Christ in those two days and came to repentance himself.

Every day we are faced with people living (what we might judge as being "confortable") lives, and we pray fervently that the Spirit will move them to repentance of their sin. That the Lord will cleanse the camp of all sin. But what do you say when the Spirit´s calling finally gets their attention and they come to repentance. What´s next?

We do know that the woman caught in adultry was given 5 simple words of advice. Five words to give her direction and hope. Five words that have profound meaning and can evoke life changing events. "GO AND SIN NO MORE."
